CLASSES INTRODUCTION:
Julie is a teacher and she loves to teach. She teaches part time in high school, as well as with adults. The thrill for her is to see students take risks, to enjoy learning and extend their experiences and forms of visual expression. As a highly skilled, organized and dynamic educator, she knows herclasses are fun, exciting and challenging, yet in a non threatening way.
Julie's teaching is for developing creativity, artistic knowledge, diversity and a more individual means of expression. She teaches students to play, to develop ideas and imagery and an expressive and personal approach to designing for quilts and textiles. Her classes are mostly focused at the preliminary, designing stages of quilting. Any or most of the different traditional and contemporary quilting styles taught can be utilised following her classes.
Workshops begin with a tutorial session; comprehensive notes & diagrams are provided that follow with paper and fabric exercises. The class explores ideas, images and creativity, learns about art processes and techniques that relate to textiles and quilting. Students will develop a working knowledge and understanding of the art / design principles and learn how to embed them into their individual projects. Participants take home a resource folio or sketchbook of starting points and samples for a variety of individual textile / quilting projects. Each class offers the chance to design, dye or print fabrics of varied amounts that are all suitable for quilting. Julie dyes and prints only with cotton fabrics, however students may wish to experiment further within the sessions.
